Status is a mobile operating system and decentralized browser designed to connect smartphone users with the Ethereum network. It combines a private messenger with access to Ethereum decentralized applications (dapps), presenting these functions through an app for Android and iOS devices. The project’s stated purpose is to help everyday users interact with dapps from a mobile phone and contribute to a more decentralized digital environment. Within its described functionality, Status supports sending, receiving, and storing Ether and other Ethereum-based crypto assets on a phone. It also includes a way for users to discover nearby Status users for exchanging currency, services, and ideas locally. Status originated as an Ethereum light-client concept presented at DevCon2 in September 2016 by co-founders Carl Bennetts and Jarrad Hope. SNT is the project’s associated token.
