Optimism is a network of chains known as the Superchain, built with the open-source OP Stack. OP Mainnet was the first chain in the group, and the supplied profile names Base, Unichain, Ink, and World Chain among other networks using the stack. The OP Stack is presented as an Ethereum Layer 2 framework intended to provide faster, lower-cost transactions. OP is the governance token, with holders participating in protocol upgrades, funding choices, and related governance processes. Optimism also describes revenue sharing in which participating chains contribute a defined portion of revenue or on-chain profit to the Optimism Collective. At a high level, the project combines a reusable Layer 2 software framework with a multi-chain coordination model. Its distinct feature is the attempt to connect chain deployment, governance, and collective funding across one network family.
