What is Horizen?

Horizen is a modular privacy-first platform designed to make privacy technologies such as zero-knowledge proofs and trusted execution environments accessible and usable across the web. Horizen 2.0 is described as an Ethereum-aligned Layer 3 appchain deployed on Base, inheriting rollup settlement on Ethereum while providing application-level integrity guarantees. Its privacy stack combines zero-knowledge proofs, trusted execution environments, attribute-based encryption, multi-party computation, and fully homomorphic encryption. The platform is intended to support privacy-enabled applications including private identity, decentralized finance, onchain gaming, and confidential transactions. Horizen integrates decentralized proof generation and connections with zk infrastructure providers including Fermah, zkVerify, and Singularity. EVM compatibility and privacy-oriented tooling are designed to help developers embed privacy in smart contracts. ZEN is the native utility token for DAO governance, access to privacy services, and zkApp interactions. Following migration to Base, ZEN is an ERC-20 token within the Ethereum ecosystem.
