What is Electroneum?

Electroneum is a Layer 1 (L1) blockchain project designed to provide an EVM-compatible foundation for smart contracts and decentralized applications. Its stated purpose is to offer a blockchain environment built around fast transaction confirmation, instant finality, and low-cost smart contract execution. The network uses the Istanbul Byzantine Fault Tolerance (IBFT) consensus mechanism and describes a validator model involving recognized organizations, including universities and Web3 infrastructure companies. This design is presented as supporting security and energy efficiency within the network’s operating model. Electroneum identifies ETN as the network’s native asset and describes the blockchain as the underlying infrastructure for AnyTask.com, a crypto-oriented freelance platform. Within the Smart Contract Platform and Layer 1 (L1) categories, the project is positioned as general-purpose blockchain infrastructure with an EVM-compatible architecture and a stated connection to digital work services.
