Dogecoin is an open-source digital currency launched in 2013 as a parody of cryptocurrency culture and inspired by the Doge meme. It operates as a peer-to-peer payment and digital-tipping network, supported by volunteers and the non-profit Dogecoin Foundation rather than a formal company. DOGE is the native asset used to transfer value and make transactions. The blockchain uses Scrypt proof of work, creates blocks at relatively short intervals, and can be merge-mined with other Scrypt networks. Dogecoin’s identity is shaped by its long-running brand, community-led organization, and broad recognition. Unlike assets with a fixed maximum supply, DOGE has no supply cap: new coins continue to enter circulation through its issuance process. Its role is therefore primarily transactional and cultural rather than linked to a stated fee, staking, or governance mechanism.

Every CryptoGrade rating comes from the same published, rules-based framework: six weighted dimensions produce a 0–100 composite score, hard disqualifying gates can force exclusion regardless of score, and fixed thresholds map the composite to a grade. Read the full methodology on the Framework page.
The full Dogecoin verdict — the investment thesis, disqualifier gate checks, per-dimension scores with provenance, on-chain usage and developer-activity signals, and the complete score history — is free with a sign-in and identical for everyone.
