What is Derive?

Derive is a permissionless decentralized protocol for programmable on-chain options, perpetual contracts, and structured products. It operates on Derive Chain, described as an Ethereum rollup built with the OP Stack. DRV is the governance token, with holders governing the Derive DAO. The supplied profile states that the DAO receives trading and chain gas fees, while trading fees are directed to an insurance fund intended to support protocol and rollup resilience. Derive also offers an AI-assisted trading application for professional users, with planned support for spot, perpetual, and options trading across Derive and selected Layer 2 automated market makers. Its distinct combination is derivatives infrastructure, a dedicated rollup, governance, and an insurance-oriented fee arrangement.

How this rating is produced

Every CryptoGrade rating comes from the same published, rules-based framework: six weighted dimensions produce a 0–100 composite score, hard disqualifying gates can force exclusion regardless of score, and fixed thresholds map the composite to a grade. Read the full methodology on the Framework page.

The full Derive verdict — the investment thesis, disqualifier gate checks, per-dimension scores with provenance, on-chain usage and developer-activity signals, and the complete score history — is free with a sign-in and identical for everyone.

CryptoGrade publishes transparent, rules-based crypto ratings — identical for every visitor. Educational research only; not financial advice. Crypto assets are volatile and you can lose your entire investment.
